In the framework of FIRE PREP Project, funded by the Program IPA CBC Greece- Albania 2014-2020, in 30th of June 2021 there was organized the inauguration ceremony of the reconstruction of the Fire Fighting Station of Berat Municipality. The existing building of Berat Fire Station dates to 1970s, but due to lack of investments during the last 30 years, the building was in very poor conditions. The funding support of the Fire Prep Project made possible the full rehabilitation of the building including hydro-isolation, tiling, renovation of the spaces of the offices, dormitories and the cabinet, replacement of the doors, completion of the firemen’ wardrobe, renovation of the electric system and introduction of a heating system, repair of the firemen’ exercise terrains, asphalt paving of the entrance and the square where the fire trucks are positioned.
The Project has enabled also the furnishing of the Fire Station with the necessary equipment, such as tables and chairs for the cabinet, beds for the dormitory, bathroom equipment, conference hall and office spaces, wardrobes, etc.)
Present in the inauguration ceremony were the Albanian Partners of Fire Prep Project, the Project Teams of Berat Municipality (LB) and the teams of Ministry of Defense (PB3) and Ministry of Tourism and Environment (PB4). The Greek Partner, The Hellenic Fire Corps (PB2) could not attend due to the fire situation in Athens
Present in the inauguration ceremony were also the economic attaché of the Embassy of Greece in Albania Mr Sarantis Moschovis, the Ambassador of Japan in Albania, Mrs Xheku Konomi the member of the Parliament of Berat, stakeholders and other Regional institutional representatives of the city of Berat.
There were speeches by the Mayor of Berat Mr. Ervin Demo, appreciating the Project Fire Prep and explained the importance of the project for the Municipality of Berat, by mentioning the support of the EU and the IPA CBC Greece- Albania Program for the improvement of the Fire Fighting Services. A greeting speech was made by the Ambassador of Japan in Albania, Mr Takada Mistuyuki, in the framework of the support that the Embassy has provided for Berat Municipality, by the donation of one fire truck in the last year.
Mr Sarantis Moschovis from the Greek Embassy had a greeting speech in the ceremony, appreciating the IPA CBC Greece- Albania as a strong connection factor between the two countries and expressed his availability to promote the good partnership of the Project.
Mrs Klodiana Marikaj from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment (PB4) had the last greeting speech, by evaluating the strong support of the Fire Prep project, and the excellent cooperation between the partners. She appreciated the impact of the Project in our territories and promoted the joint future initiatives between the Partners.
A visit was then made to the newly restored premises of the firefighting station. The participants attended in the training room of the Fire Station, the photos’ presentation of the construction phases, and the step by step transforming photos of the Fire Station during the investment works.
