Project Description

Summary

DIGITAL is a strategic cross-border project under the Interreg IPA Greece–Albania 2021–2027 programme that promotes circular economy practices through the use of digital tools in urban waste management. By adopting the “Earn As You Throw” (EAYT) approach, the project aims to increase recycling rates, reduce landfill waste and support low-carbon, climate-resilient communities. Smart bins equipped with sensors, magnetic cards, and precision scales will be deployed in Greece (Eordaia, Ioannina, Corfu), while sensor-based systems will be introduced in Albania (Berat, Himara). The project fosters transnational cooperation, citizen engagement and sustainable resource use, benefiting over 290,000 residents across the two countries.imate-resilient economy. By enhancing collaboration among local authorities, civil society organizations, and citizens, the project will improve waste management and upgrade the quality of life, ensuring a sustainable future for the region.
