The TRANSPORT.SAF.ER project aims to enhance road safety, improve traffic flow, and strengthen multimodal connectivity in key transport hubs across Greece and Albania.
The project focuses on the following targeted interventions:
Ioannina, Greece: Construction of a new roundabout near the airport will improve access to the city’s ring road and enhance connectivity with the Egnatia Odos (A2) and Ionia Odos (A5) motorways, both part of the TEN-T network. This intervention supports planned infrastructure extensions toward the Kakavia border crossing.
Corfu, Greece: A new roundabout near the airport will facilitate smoother access to Corfu City and the port, strengthening connections with Igoumenitsa, northern Corfu, and Albania. This upgrade will reduce congestion and enable safer, more efficient integration of air, sea, and road transport.
Vlora, Albania: Upgrading of a rural road near the site of the future Vlora International Airport will enhance road safety and accessibility, promoting regional mobility and supporting tourism development along the Albanian coastline.
Expected benefits include improved regional mobility, reduced travel times, safer road infrastructure, and lower environmental impact. In addition, capacity-building activities will foster cross-border knowledge exchange and promote best practices in road safety.
